October blog roundup

The Innotune.net crewAnother month of electronic fjord music is over. Let’s have a look at the October content highlights from our five edm Vikings.

We kicked off with a funny video in which Woody Van Eyden showed us a pretty neat dj act. Since then we’ve showed you analog synth porn, a sneak peak of new music from Sami Saari and Heikki L and 5 iPhone apps for music production.

The second podcast episode was launched in the middle of the month, with Toolroom head Mark Knight in the mix. We also started the Toolroom Knights competition, which still is open.

The most enriching post and discussion of October was Originality and superstardom in the EDM scene written by Ville Lope. Get in there and write your opinion about the subject.

At the end of the month DJ Mag published the long awaited Top 100 dj list of 2009. Innotune resident Marcus Schossow was one of the new entries. Håkon Lofthus wrote about all the new kids on the block.

The new kids on the block: Dj Mag Top 100 new entries

The list is back

The list is back

The votes are in, and the Dj Mag Top 100 djs was announced a couple of days ago. Basically, it’s the same list as ever, and the Top 10 is just somewhat rearranged – some goes up, some goes down. However, there are some djs worth talking about on the list: The new entries!

The new entries on the Dj Mag Top 100 list:

Sebastian Ingrosso (25)
The highest new entry. It’s really weird that Ingrosso wasn’t on the list last year. As a higly respected member of the Swedish House Mafia, this guy really know how to make some sweet swedish house grooves.

Kaskade (51)
Ryan Raddon is the guy behind Kaskade, and he was one of the guys who cashed in on the chordy/Deadmau5 movement the last years. His last album release was a commercial hit, but it’s worth checking out tracks like “I remember”

Boyz Noize (68)
Very french-ish sound, but the guys is actually German and named Alexander Ridha. He got on a roll after the more dirty Justice-movement, but he makes it sound even better than the french guys!

Originality and superstardom

Though being active in this scene for a while now, sometimes I still feel like a newbie. My career as an artist is just beginning. Though being a DJ for years, my network expanded vastly after I started at Finity. Working for Finity, and now for Subtraxx, have given me credibility in international level. Credibility is something people have to work for years in the business at the moment.

Producing is relatively easy these days. Software is cheap (if not free) and easy to use. I’m using 100% software myself and started producing just 3,5 years ago so I should know.

Anyone can these days get the best plugins (legally or illegally, I’m not going there this time) and start producing. Everybody has a computer powerful enough these days. Heck, even I do my music on a laptop.

International Departures – Monday Bar Cruise, Sweden

Globetrotting super producers Shane 54 and Myon are not only one of the hottest act in trance at the moment, but also very capable in creating fresh content – in video.

These Hungarian fellows recently visited Sweden and legendary party cruise Monday Bar. If you haven’t heard of Monday Bar cruises or these guys before, these videos are must to see. Otherwise… well, it’s still worth the watch. These guys are funny, as is Daniel Kandi – making a “cameo” role in this video.

Heikki L and Sami Saari collaborating

Innotune, or actually our spy in native Finland, Ville Lope had the priviledge to visit the legendary Helsinki Vibe studios just few weeks back.

You might be familiar with Helsinki Vibe earlier, as names such as Super8 & Tab, Miika Kuisma, and now freshly joining the collective finnish prodigy Anton Sonin are doing their tracks and remixes on the premises.

One of the best known names of the collective actually isn’t a trance head as you might assume. Heikki L, previously known from Dallas Superstars fame is now taking over the house scene and being the number one export in finnish house at the moment.

Lately he has noticed having the same mindset with northern house wizard Sami Saari, now running his own label Wicked Recordings. All this lead to a long weekend at the Helsinki Vibes, result being three tracks to be finalized just a moment after.

Here’s a track called Humanizer which might come out from Heikki L’s Danceteria label – or then it’s signed to some well known label, like it’s precessor “Let It Take You High” now signed to Nervous Records NYC.

Tiesto wants your Remix

This is your chance to remix Tiesto, but you have to buy the material.

This is your chance to remix Tiesto, but you have to buy the material.

Previously dubbed as the world’s number one DJ Tiesto is now having a remix competition with Beatport.

Known and criticised of asking for money to download the remix parts Beatport does it again. To get all the remix parts bundled you have to invest 4,35 euros to the remix kit (available until October 5th).

That is actually a small price for the privilegde to legally remix one of the biggest names in the game, and a chance to win Tiësto merchandise, Ultra records music package and $250 gift certificate to Beatport.

I’m too busy, broke and uninterested to these vocals to take part to the competition, but are you taking part in it?

Read the whole story in Beatportal.

The good old days – With LEGEND David Vorhaus

Yesterday I came over this video-interview with Analogue LEGEND David Vorhaus. One word: AMAZING!

While my initial thought is “Wow, we’ve come a long way (baby)” in regards of the evolution of equipment, I would also love to get my hands on that gear!
