“Many in the rave scene have heard this term at some time or another, although its common usage is relatively recent. Early 1990s and mid-1980s ravers often followed similar principles, but did not use this coinage to describe their beliefs. It may be interpreted as the way that a raver believes he or she should live his or her life, and how people are expected to behave at a rave. This philosophy of the rave culture theoretically takes precedence over any chemical aspects of the rave scene”
I was randomly browsing some of my old favourite djs/producers Myspace sites, and I came across a “statement” made by ATB`s agency Dancefield. You can read the whole story here.
But to break it into the short version for the lazy reader out there. It pretty much say that PVD refused to play directly after the German superstar ATB.
Now this brings me back to the term PLUR, which in fact was one of the things I LOVED about the scene when I first got introduced. Going to “rave party” there were never any fights , any bad attitude. Everyone seemed to be on the same level. The DJ were there for the crowd, and the crowd were there for the dj/music, the vibe, the respect and for common belief that what we were doing was different and it was better than what everyone else had. It was like an identity, nobody could take it away from us.
From then till now, which is about 10 years in my case: It changed, it slowly moved into something that’s more common in the commercial music business! So I ask this? Is this what we want from OUR music. Do we want it to be about who’s the biggest star, do we want it to be about bashing other artists because of their sound, their looks? And do we last but not least want two middle-aged, so called superstar djs fighting like two teenage girls about who’s most popular? Frankly, I think both of them should take their head out of their ass! Cause in the end, they fucked over every single one who came to that festival, and they are the ones who paid their salary.
So to all the djs, remember where you came from, and what your job is…
…make people dance
And to all you forum “ravers”…
…remember PLUR
Peace
